The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- (Japanese: 『HUNDRED LINE -最終防衛学園-』(ハンドレッドライン)), occasionally written as The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, is a 2025 Strategy-Based JRPG/SRPG[6] about 15 students being tasked with defending a school from grotesque monsters for 100 days. It's being written and directed by the creator of Danganronpa, Kazutaka Kodaka, and the creator of Zero Escape, Kotaro Uchikoshi.

Synopsis[]

"The main character Takumi Sumino was living an ordinary life in Tokyo Residential Complex. His peaceful days with his family and childhood friends are shattered by the sudden appearance of an unknown assailant.

The mysterious entity which calls itself “SIREI,” gives Takumi the unique ability “Hemoanima,” which he uses to escape the dire situation he is in but is then forced by “SIREI” to transfer to the Last Defense Academy.

Fifteen students have been brought together. The objective of the students, as communicated by “SIREI,” is to defend the school for 100 days against the oncoming enemy, i.e. the “School Invaders,” and to save humanity." - Official Synopsis[7]

Limit X Despair 2018 Artwork

Limit X Despair Artwork from 2018.

The game was revealed in 2018, where the project was initially titled "Limit X Despair". Two promotional artworks were released back when the game was still under that title before it got reworked into The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. [8][9]

The project was initially going to be published by another company in 2017[10], but the plan failed to happen, and the studio took out a loan. This lead to them going into debt to fund development on the The Hundred Line. Soon after, they went to look for another publisher for the game and met Aniplex. After their partnership, development of the game became much more smoother afterwards.[9] [11] On June 18th, 2024, Nintendo Direct reveals the trailer of the game and it is scheduled to release on the Nintendo Switch and Steam in Early 2025.[12] [13]
