Personality[]
"The main character of this story. A completely average high schooler from a completely average family. He can be a little indecisive and pessimistic at times, but when he has something to protect, he'll fight with everything he's got." - Official Website Description[6]
Takumi is the "everyman"—a completely average high schooler from an equally average background. He doesn’t see himself as particularly special, and his indecisiveness and occasional pessimism make him doubt his own significance at times. However, Takumi can be courageous when faced with something or truly wants to protect someone.[7] He fights with everything he has, showing a determination that surpasses his usual self-doubt.
Despite his belief in his own mediocrity, Takumi has an undeniable strength in his ability to believe in others. He places deep faith in his friends and loved ones, and when faced with the possibility of them being harmed, he is willing to set aside his own doubts—even if it means trusting uncertain information. When Sirei forced them into battle, warning that his loved ones would die or get hurt if he refused to fight, Takumi didn’t allow himself to question whether it was a lie. Instead, he chose to act, unwilling to take even the smallest risk when it came to protecting the people he cares about. This unwavering resolve, despite his uncertainties, makes him truly admirable.

History[]
Early Life[]
Takumi's life before being enlisted into the Last Defense Academy is straightforward which can be described as average. Despite this, he seems very content with his life. He is a resident of the Tokyo Residential Complex, living with his mother and father. He spends the majority of his time with his childhood friend, Karua Kashimiya, being close that she could come by to his house anytime[8]. Takumi attends an unnamed high school alongside Karua. Before the turning point, Karua mentioned to Takumi that they had a big test coming up where she suggest they do a study session together[8].
Other than that, very little is known aside from the repetition of his life.
Takumi met Sirei in an abandoned school when chasing after Karua where Sirei was disguised as the dog that Karua was chasing after. He was then, said by Sirei, to be chosen to enroll in the Last Defense Academy, needing him to be alone to announce it. Takumi's reaction would be perplexed. They would be interrupted by an alarm alert, this one being more serious than the previous ones Takumi is used to.
He ran off and out the school, reuniting with Karua. They both ran for their lives after encountering the Invaders, witnessing the onslaught and destruction as everything falls apart around them. They eventually got cornered by some Invaders and the bridge collapsed. Takumi gain consciousness, injured from the collapsed, seeing Karua unconscious getting surrounded. Being unable to help her until Sirei came over.
Being given the Infuser to be able to wield Hemoanima, he manages to save Karua and also passing his entrance exam, officially becoming a student.
According to Sirei, it is implied that Takumi's entrance exam was improvised to fit the current situation.[8]
Ability[]
Great Charisma[]
Takumi possesses an innate charisma that allows him to earn the trust and loyalty of others with relative ease. When he dedicates himself to deepening his bonds, those around him naturally begin to follow his lead. This effect is magnified when others perceive him as someone important—such as a time traveler or key figure in their fate. His unwavering determination to fight for what’s right and protect those he cares about earns him deep respect among his peers, making him a natural choice as the leader of the Last Defense Squad.
Time Traveler[]
Thanks to his Specialist Skill, Redo, which was enhanced by absorbing the most powerful Hemoanima, Takumi gains the ability to leap through time. This grants him foreknowledge of future events, allowing him to prevent tragedies, counter enemy plans, and make decisive choices that shift the course of battle. With this unique advantage, he plays a critical role in guiding the squad through seemingly impossible odds.
Enhanced Combat Ability[]
As a result of absorbing the strongest Hemoanima in the past, Takumi has surpassed the physical and tactical capabilities of his peers. He demonstrates superior swordsmanship and combat reflexes, often being the one to finish off powerful enemies like V'exhness. His experience and knowledge also give him a strong grasp of battlefield tactics, allowing him to adapt quickly and lead with both brains and brawn.
Karua is his childhood friend who he presumably hung out with frequently until the monsters started wreaking havoc around Tokyo Residential Complex.
The 2 have had a very close bond since early childhood. Karua is shown to depend on Takumi and seems to put all her trust into him. Ever since Karua's dad died in a car accident, Takumi made a promise to look after Karua and she seems to have welcomed his protection and friendship. Takumi put much value on his promise to look after Karua and constantly worried about her.
She gave Takumi the nickname, "Takky" and seems to always call him by it.
Eito is Takumi's most trusted ally. From the moment they first met, there was an odd sense of immediate sense of acceptance.
Like many of the other students, Takumi seems to naturally care for Eito and also shows additional concern for his illness reminding him to not push himself or to rely on him if he needs anything.
Takumi also doesn't seem go harbor any ill-will towards Eito's skeptical nature of the situation and still shows care for his well being even when their beliefs clash, and in turn, Eito also seems to respect his viewpoints.
After Eito is rescued by Takumi, Darumi, and Takemaru, he seems to accept their friend and care, and seemingly opens up much more to Takumi, showing much gratitude to him solidifying the start of their close bond.
Takumi seems to hold Hiruko in high regard in the aspect of strength and intelligence, such as when first meeting, he suspects she may know more than the others and when they were all cornered by a monster, Takumi calls out to her first.
Despite this, he can still feel intimidated by Hiruko's harsh personality such as when she put pressure on him to find Sirei.
During their Freetime Events, Hiruko shows a calmer side to her such as meditating and appreciating art, which she allows Takumi to partake in with her.
The kanji behind him in his Report Card profile is 失敗 (shippai), meaning "failure".
Takumi is confirmed to be 17, alongside Eito, as well as being third-years, making them seniors in high school. Their ages are only explicitly stated in the Japanese version of the game.[10]
Takumi loves watching movies.
The phrase on his hoodie, "I'm still a little too petrified to laugh", is a quote from the movie Pulp Fiction.
