As the last of the nightlights switch off and are replaced the colossal light panels on the ceiling that stretch from one horizon to the other, an administrative announcement from the Tokyo Residential Complex authorities announces the start of a new day over the omni-present loudspeakers. Most of the complex's residents are already heading to their destinations for the day, but not Takumi Sumino. He has just switched off his alarm clock and is thinking of sleeping in, but his mother calls him to breakfast. Thus, Takumi begrudgingly heads to the kitchen to start his new day. After learning his father has already headed out, Takumi sees a familiar sight at the dining table. His longtime childhood friend, Karua Kashimiya, is having breakfast at the same table, which Takumi finds a little odd. Remembering Karua's mother is frequently absent from home for her research, both Takumi and his mother welcome her to visit anytime, which Karua accepts with gratitude. Takumi and Karua chat while heading to school. After breakfast, the two head to school. They discuss an upcoming exam and whether they should have a study session together. While Takumi is reluctant about anything related to studying, Karua convinces him that, no matter what, he can and will always find a way to succeed. Takumi's resolve is bolstered by this quote, and the pair continue their walk toward their school. The endless flow of peaceful and quiet days in the complex are all so taken for granted. But then, the complex's alarm klaxons suddenly activate and warn the residents of an attack on the complex. All residents are directed toward the complex's many underground bunkers to seek shelter until the emergency situation is over. Apparently, Takumi has heard these alarms so often that it is more of a nuisance than an emergency, but it is more distressing for Karua, as the wailing of sirens reminds her of the time her father died. Takumi sees a manhole cover before him and suggests they head into the shelter below. He removes the cover and climbs down the ladder with Karua. While the two wait for the emergency to end, Takumi realizes they are the only two in this particular shelter. The alarms and seeking shelter underground have also become ingrained into the daily life of the complex, even though none of its citizens know the meaning behind any of it. Despite Takumi's reassurances, Karua is still nervous and asks Takumi to repeat a particular phrase he once said to her. Under "pressure," Takumi acquiesces and utters the phrase, promising to protect Karua no matter what happens. In reaction, Karua leans into his arm, and it gets Takumi quite flustered. The two climb out of the hideout. Takumi arrives at the abandoned school. Sometime later, the administrative announcement gives the all clear signal and disengages the emergency protocols. Like Takumi said, nothing has happened to the complex during the alarms. The two ascend the stairs and prepare to continue their trip to school. Just as Takumi removes the manhole cover to get out, a shiba inu suddenly appears at the entrance. This startles Takumi enough for him to fall and roll all the way down the ladder and stairs he has just climbed. Like a miracle, Takumi is not injured at all, but Karua suddenly ditches him to chase after the fleeing dog. Takumi calls out to Karua and, after seeing her running not far in front of him, chases after her. The chase leads him through several narrow alleyways, and, after running through the final one, Takumi comes upon an abandoned school building, one he never knew is even there. Then, he sees Karua running through its corridors and enters the building to find her. After ascending a floor, Takumi enters a classroom and finds the dog Karua is chasing, although she is not there. However, the dog suddenly jumps at his face and explodes into smoke. By the time the smoke clears, Takumi is sitting against the wall and looking at a newcomer, Sirei. Takumi cannot make out if this newcomer is a robot or a toy. Apparently, that dog Karua was chasing is Sirei in disguise. Sirei is here to recruit Takumi for something and, without much delay, hands him a reddish blade with Takumi's full name inscribed on it. Before Takumi can even take it, Sirei instructs him to stab the blade into his heart. Takumi struggles to comprehend this absurdity, but the alarms outside suddenly start wailing again, this time warning of something much worse. Hearing the alarms, Sirei muses that the peaceful days in the complex have finally come to an end. Takumi wants nothing to do with Sirei's increasingly assertive recruiting and rapidly flees the classroom without the gifted infusion blade. Outside, Takumi unexpectedly runs into Karua, who strongly feels that this alarm is different from all the preceding ones. Before Takumi can calm her down again, the ceiling suddenly collapses. Its debris lands behind the two and reveals a trio of Grizzlei within. Once the Grizzlei spot the two, they immediately attack, and the two flee. Despite the alarm, the attackers have caught many citizens off guard and are massacring them, completely devastating the complex as they go. Takumi and Karua rush past the slaughter, seeking a way out of literal chaos. When the two run up a bridge to flee, they see the trio of Grizzlei from just then approaching via the other side. The bridge gets destroyed when they try going back the way they came, and the two fall down to the road below. After coming by, Takumi sees that the unconscious Karua is surrounded by the mysterious invaders, and he himself is too far to reach or save her. Sirei pops up out of nowhere and continues their unfinished conversation, now with much more weight behind his words. He tells Takumi that, to save Karua, he will have to stab the blade he left into his heart, just like he has told him before. To inject the power within the blade into his heart means gaining the power to fight the invaders. At the same time, it can act as a "transfer exam" of sorts. Takumi is horrified by the idea of stabbing himself in the heart with anything, but Sirei turns his attention back to Karua, who is about to be ripped apart by the invaders. Only Takumi can now protect the one he holds dear. Naturally, he can also choose to do nothing but watch it happen. Ultimately, the decision is up to him. (At this point, the first "Decide Your Destiny" point of divergence in the game appears. However, this one is unique in having the illusion of free choice. If Takumi chooses not to fight the monsters, Sirei will angrily break the fourth wall and it will result in an instant "game over." Only by choosing the only other option, to fight the monsters, can Takumi continue.) Abandoning any other thoughts, Takumi decides to fight the monsters. He unsheathes the masterfully-crafted infusion blade, steels his resolve, and stabs it into his heart. Instantly, a massive stream of blood surges from the wound and surrounds Takumi like a cocoon. Within the cocoon, Takumi is changed into a black battle uniform as the blade's power fully awakens within him. When the blood cocoon bursts apart from the outside, Takumi emerges from it, arrayed in a uniform and holding a katana, his personal weapon, in his right hand. He is confused about what has happened, and Sirei explains that it is the manifestation of Hemoanima, infused within him through the Hematomorphic Infusion Blade. Now, he has the power to slay the invaders and save Karua. Thus, Takumi assumes a combat stance with his katana charges into battle for the first time. Soon after, Takumi finishes the invaders and rushes to Karua's side. Fortunately, she appears to be fine upon regaining consciousness, just as confused as he is about his new appearance. Sirei gives an applause from behind and congratulates Takumi on satisfactorily passing the "transfer exam." As of now, Takumi is qualified to transfer to Sirei's academy, although his invitation appears more like an order. As Sirei cheers with fireworks mysteriously going off behind him, his surroundings light up. Before Takumi realizes, he is pulled up by a mysterious force and away from Karua. As he screams in terror, Takumi falls into a strange realm of blood and memories. After plummeting into an ocean of blood-red liquid, he loses all consciousness. | |||

Takumi wakes up in the Last Defense Academy. By the time Takumi wakes up, he realizes he was sleeping at a school desk in a mysterious classroom. He has no recollection of how he got here and why. As he observes his surroundings, Takumi sees he is not alone - nine other students about his age, but still complete strangers, have just woken up at their desks as well. Judging by their confused looks, they are just as clueless about the whole situation as he is. They are also as unnerved by being here. Attempts by two students to open the door and window shutters fail - it appears the ten of them are locked in here. Then, the students collectively remember that they have all met Sirei and were all fighting monsters in the Tokyo Residential Complex before ending up here. One of the students concludes from the circumstances that they have been brought here for a killing game. This discussion is interrupted by the sudden message on the digital blackboard behind them, requesting they introduce themselves to each other. Takumi acquiesces and meets:
Soon after the introductions, Sirei pops up behind the lecture stand and introduces himself as the students' commanding officer. As of now, the students have all been enrolled in the Last Defense Academy (LDA) and are ordered to stay here. Sirei's attitude immediately enrages the impulsive Takemaru, and he charges forward to assault Sirei. However, Sirei's threat to detonate the bombs within them instantly stopped Takemaru. Apparently, Sirei took the liberty to install bombs within the students' bodies when they arrived here unconscious. Even if they were to destroy Sirei, a return back to the TRC is no longer possible from here - the LDA lies far outside the TRC. This fact unnerves many students since they have never been outside the TRC before physically and know nothing about the outside as well. To give them a demonstration and as proof to back up his words, Sirei opens the window shutters with his ocular remote, and the students all crowd at the window to behold something they have never seen before: the familiar domed ceiling of the TRC has been replaced by a blue, limitless sky, and underneath is an endless expanse of ruined buildings covered in an otherworldly purple fire that burns on incessantly. To the students, it is like they have been transported to another dimension. In reality, this is just the outside world, as real as it can get. The flames, called the Undying Flames, burn on eternally without fuel and surround the entire academy, thus forming another barrier for trapping the students inside. All these measures are to some purpose, and Sirei moves on to the students' new duties - instead of killing each other, like Darumi hopes, they are to form a Special Defense Unit (SDU) with the duty to utterly exterminate any and all enemies that threaten the school's peace. Eito suspects there must be a hidden mastermind that singled them out for this and presses Sirei for answers. Before Sirei can answer, the academy's alarm klaxons suddenly activate, and the PA system notifies the students about an attack on school grounds. In an instant, the reinforced blinds on the school windows slam shut, and several barrier generators on the courtyard emerge from the ground. When they activate, they surround the entire school in a transparent energy dome. Sirei puts an external visual on the blackboard to show the students who is attacking. The assailants are the same monsters that attacked the TRC not long before, swarming toward the LDA building in hordes. Even though these monsters would slaughter them all mercilessly if they got inside, the majority of the students still refuse to fight out of fear. But, understanding the circumstances and for different reasons, Takemaru, Hiruko, and Darumi decide to join the fight. Although they are far fewer than Sirei would have liked, the incoming assault appears to be a mere scouting party, easily beatable by a trio, fortunately. Before Sirei leaves for the War Room with those willing to fight, he leaves a chilling message for those who stay behind: this war is much larger than they know, and everything they know and hold dear is at stake. If this war is lost, then all of that, even Homo sapiens itself, will be forfeit. Driven by the promise he made to Karua, Takumi makes up his mind and rushes out the classroom to join the others. After a fiery speech by Sirei in the War Room, the four students retrieve their infusers from a pillar and transform. In a burst of blood, they don their Class Armor, equip their Class Weapons, and take the launchpads down to the battlefield below. The academy is shielded by barrier generators, which are the primary targets for the attacking monsters. Thus, aside from exterminating the attackers, the students must prioritize defending the generators as well, as their destruction will mean an automatic defeat. Despite that it is their first battle together, Takumi and the others quickly best the first wave. When they request Sirei for further information on the attackers, Sirei responds that he knows little more than they do. As their objective is to invade the school, Sirei has decided to designate them as the School Invaders for the time being. The Undying Flames bar their approach normally, but, occasionally, a particularly strong School Invader breaks through the firewall with hordes of underlings to attack the school. They are after a special object hidden deep within the school building that would render humanity extinct if the School Invaders were to get it. As such, the SDU exists to fend them off whenever they attack. Then, the particularly strong School Invader in question arrives before them in the form of a massive skeletal wyvern. His appearance intimidates the students, but the overly-excited Darumi rushes forward for an attack. She is then promptly snatched up by the wyvern's claws and crushed to death. Before her death can even settle in the remaining students' minds, Sirei orders a Corpse Recovery Drone from within the school building to retrieve Darumi's corpse. The drone arrives, picks up Darumi's corpse, and flies back to the building. After that, Sirei redirects the students' attention to the newly arrived School Invader Commander, who can only be damaged and defeated by their Hemoanima. A fierce battle later, the wyvern commander has had enough and flies away from the battlefield. There is no use going after him, so the students dispel their Hemoanima and return inside. Darumi returns unscathed. Back inside, tensions in the War Room are rising over Darumi's death in battle. Takemaru is angered by Sirei's nonchalant attitude and blames Darumi's death on the students who did not fight. But then, the room's door opens, and a very alive Darumi walks in without a scratch, much to the students' shock. Sirei explains this miracle as another courtesy of Hemoanima, which can be used to restore organic tissue and even resurrect the fallen. The students can die as much as they want on the battlefield and the result will still be the same. They are functionally immortal now, provided they die on school grounds and the recovery pods remain functional. However, each revival also means a new bomb being implanted within them. Extreme as they may seem, all of these measures are just for the students to fight to their hearts' content. Of course, the ever-suspecting Eito does not believe Sirei, and Hiruko starts asking Sirei about intel on the mysterious object in the school they are defending. Sirei offers to tell them more over a meal in the school's Cafeteria on 1F. The students agree and follow Sirei out. An hour later, the fighters among the students finish their five-star meals made with the Ration-O-Matic. By contrast, the non-fighters are excluded from this victory dinner and given only dry bread. After the meal, Sirei continues the conversation: aside from the already-known intel, Sirei now also expects the students to live within the school and defend it for 100 consecutive days. If they survive that, the war will be won and they can go back to their lives as they wish. Hiruko then notes that Sirei has still not answered what the mysterious object they are defending is or why such a crucial operation is entrusted upon merely ten civilians with no combat experience or prowess. However, Sirei keeps this information secret and refuses to elaborate further for as long as even one student refuses to fight. If the students want to know more, the fighters among them must convince the non-fighters to join the battle. After that, Sirei tells the students to get some rest early to prepare for the next surprise attack, whenever that is. To that end, he has prepared a series of individual dorms on the rooftop for the students to stay in. Thus, the students ascend to the rooftop to find their dorms. Takumi's dorm. Once he is there, Takumi discovers the dorms are more like prefab huts bearing the tenant's name underneath the night sky. There are also more dorms than there are students, for some reason. Ima is, of course, absolutely outraged by being assigned a separate room from Kako. Takumi finds his dorm and goes to sleep without delay, having exhausted his body and mind throughout the turbulent day. Before his consciousness slips away, he still wishes that it was all a dream and he can return to normal life as soon as he wakes up again. | |||
Day 002[]
- The students explore the school's facilities.
- Over half the students refuse to fight.
- To decrease tensions, Sirei goes to deliberate with his superiors to scrap the policy of secrecy.
- Takumi has a memory dream of his childhood with Karua and remembers his promise.
- Takumi sees a ghostly apparition outside at night.

Sirei's classic morning announcement. Takumi gets woken up by the school's four-tune bell and Sirei's morning announcement. In the overly energetic announcement, Sirei orders the students to head down to the Cafeteria for their breakfast and their schedule for the day. Takumi is less than pleased at hearing this wakeup call but follows Sirei's instructions anyway. On his way there, he still is not used to seeing the sky above him. In the Cafeteria, the students have their breakfasts, half of them, anyway - like yesterday, the non-fighters are stuck with dry bread again. During the meal, Sirei announces the plan for the rest of the day: he originally planned to show the students around the LDA Campus on the day they arrived but had to reschedule it due to the School Invaders' surprise attack. Thus, the students are to explore all the unlocked rooms and facilities of the LDA Campus today. Takumi follows the rest and explores:
Just then, Sirei's announcement calls the students back to the Cafeteria. He tells them that there are many more rooms to this school that are currently locked but will be unlocked as the days progress. Surprisingly, the LDA does not have any standard schedules or curriculums. Aside from the irregular school invasions, the students are free to spend their time however they like, provided they are always ready for combat. Again, Sirei repeats his monologue of what is at stake in this war, and Eito, as ever, does not believe him. He outright refuses to comply with anything Sirei says until the latter is willing to reveal the truth of it all to them, while Sirei refuses to do so until all the students join the fight. The students are at a temporary stalemate. But, seeing the plan of secrecy has backfired and wanting to restore the students' trust in him if it means better unity, Sirei finally acquiesces and agrees to tell them the full story. However, Sirei cannot make that decision alone and will have to propose this to his superiors. He asks for the students to meet him in the War Room for the results tomorrow morning and disappears. The students also disband and retreat to their own dorms. After the nighttime announcement, Takumi quickly falls asleep and enters a memory dream of his early childhood, when he was still in kindergarten. In the dream, Karua was devastatingly saddened by the death of her father in an car accident during an emergency alarm in the TRC. Karua managed to survive, although she was covered in bandages, while her father was not so lucky. Karua was afraid that no one would want to marry her with the huge gash she had on her abdomen. To lessen her grief, the young Takumi made a promise to marry her when he grew up. This promise dispels Karua's grief enough for her to smile again. His word is bond, and Takumi vows to never break that promise, even if he has to fight to keep it. Takumi looks at his reflection in the mirror. Takumi sees the stars and the "moon." Takumi suddenly jumps up from that memory dream in a shock and wonders what Karua and everyone else back at the TRC must be thinking of him after he disappeared during the attack. His body drenched in sweat, Takumi decides to go out for some fresh air. Along the way, he sees himself in the mirror and inspects his reflection. Somehow, he feels like the face he sees within the mirror is not him anymore, perhaps a depersonalizing side effect of the Hemoanima. Nevertheless, he exits the door and steps outside, looking up to behold the night sky in all its glory, an endless expanse of stars and the darkness in between. As he wonders what Karua would say if she were to see this, Takumi sees one celestial object much closer than the others but cannot recall its name. Suddenly, Takumi hears a voice behind him and spins around to see who it is. He sees an apparition in the shape of a young man wreathed in Undying Flames. Although its appearance unnerves Takumi, the apparition appears to be telling him something in a tongue or frequency he cannot understand. When the apparition learns its message is not getting through to Takumi, it seems disappointed and disappears into thin air, just like that. Takumi is dumbfounded by the encounter with a ghost like that, so much that it takes him a while to start returning to his dorm. There, he cannot get a wink of sleep and simply waits for the morning announcement while in deep contemplation about that encounter. Eito kills Sirei in a single strike. After the nighttime announcement, Eito meets with Sirei alone in the gym under the guise that Sirei trains him to use Hemoanima in order to join the fight as well. When Sirei’s guard is down, Eito uses his Class Weapon, a massive scythe, and makes a single fatal strike against him. This triggers Sirei’s defensive measures, and the bomb inside Eito detonates, killing him. However, the Revive-O-Matic, not detecting the betrayal, automatically dispatches a drone to collect Eito’s body and revive him. Sirei, now inoperative from the surprise attack, is then collected by a resurrected Eito, dismembered, and placed in trash bags to be disposed off some other time. All of that happens without the anybody else's detection. | |||
Day 003[]
- Sirei goes missing.

Morning finally arrives with Sirei's announcement, and Takumi ponders if he should tell the other about that encounter with the apparition last night. He decides to think about it later, for today is the day when Sirei will tell them the truth behind it all. After passing a restless and queasy Eito, Takumi heads to the War Room to find everyone already there, except for Sirei. The students assume he is still deliberating with the brass and take this opportunity for some free time. Thus, the students all go about their own business around the school. Even when the day ends, Sirei is still nowhere to be seen or heard except for the usual announcements. | |||
Day 004[]
- Sirei is still missing, and the students search for him but do not find him anywhere in the school.
- HIs absence diminishes the regulation enforcement.

After waking up to Sirei's announcement, Takumi heads down to the Cafeteria to meet with everyone else. After Sirei's absence for an entire day, he expects to hear the truth from Sirei today. But when Takumi arrives in the Cafeteria, Sirei is still the only one missing. As of now, he has been missing for over 24 hours. In his absence, Ima and Kako have already taken advantage of the Ration-O-Matic and made portions of Mont Blanc for themselves. Emboldened by a lack of regulation enforcement, Gaku and Tsubasa, long tired of dry bread, also scramble to the machine to cook up their desired meals. Sirei's absence gets the more rational students worried and Takemaru angry. They hypothesize that he may be in one of the locked rooms or even outside the school. Eventually, they agree that they should go look for Sirei around the academy. But after a fruitless search, the students all return to their rooms and spend the rest of the day in free time. In the end, Takumi goes to bed feeling uneasy about Sirei's continued absence. | |||
Day 005[]
- With Sirei still missing, Eito plans to flee the school.
- Takumi enters another memory dream of his childhood with Karua.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Like the last two days, Sirei is still missing, and the students are beginning to think something has gone wrong. Searches in and outside have all yielded nothing. Without his enforcement, Eito feels bold enough to seize this opportunity of escaping the school and returning home. He offers the others to come with him, but the non-fighters find this attempt without a map or plan too risky. Ultimately, they are both too afraid to fight and to flee, meaning Eito is the only one in favor of fleeing. Dejected by their reluctance, Eito realizes he does not know the students as well as he imagines and leaves to be alone with his thoughts. The rest of the students spend their day in free time again until the evening. In his room, Takumi starts thinking whether everything Sirei has told them is a lie. Unable to deal with the chain of questions that come with that thought, he falls into a light sleep. He enters another memory dream and remembers Karua always used to get lost when they were still children. Her disappearances and reappearances were so complete that it looked like she wandered in and out of this world. When she disappeared after a recent alarm, her mother asked Takumi to go find her. Takumi found her sitting on a bench using a random feeling he had. While Karua was good at wandering off, he remembered he was even better at finding her again and promised to always do that whenever she would get lost again. This claim made Karua laugh, and the two went home together. | |||
Day 006[]
- Eito leaves school grounds with an extinguisher.
- Takumi, Takemaru, and Darumi venture beyond the firewall to find him.
- They save Eito from the School Invaders' encirclement and carry him back.
- Eito gives a piece of Sirei's badge he found to Takumi.
- Hiruko requests Takumi guide her to the same place to search for clues.
Day 007[]
- Takumi and Hiruko find Sirei's destroyed chassis in a trashcan.
- Takumi suspects the ghostly apparition of having done the deed.
- With Sirei gone, the students are without direction.
- A School Invader Commander attacks and nearly overwhelms the SDU.
- Eito saves the day, and Hiruko absorbs the Commander's Hemoanima.

Sirei's body is discovered. As soon as he wakes up in the morning, Takumi heads down to the Entrance Hall to meet with Hiruko, though he is still late by Hiruko's standards. Hiruko has Takumi guide her back to where Eito was found to search for more clues about what happened to Sirei. Upon a thorough search of the area around a collapsed overpass, Takumi comes upon an insignificant-looking trashcan. He gently lifts the lid and finds Sirei’s dismembered body inside, ████ ██ █ ██[1]. The two bring the trashcan back to the school and present it to the others a few hours later. Everyone is at a loss of who exactly could have done this to Sirei. They can only assume that some School Invaders killed Sirei on school grounds, took his remains, and scattered them beyond the wall before the students could notice he was gone. The badge must have got stuck on one of them during the process. As the students discuss what type of School Invader could have come and left without triggering the Defense System, Shouma laments it seems almost like the doing of a ghost. This makes Takumi recall his encounter with the ghost-like boy on the rooftop on the second night, the day after which Sirei disappeared. Whoever did this, the students are now without a directive, and the promise that they can return to the TRC after 100 days is even more uncertain now. Just then, the alarm klaxons activate, warning of an imminent school invasion. Many students nearly freak out over an attack during Sirei's absence, but Hiruko takes the initiative and temporarily takes over Sirei's role of commander. After she leaves a threatening message for the non-fighters, Hiruko and the fighters rush to the War Room. There, they transform and launch themselves toward the battlefield below. The four easily annihilate the first wave, with especially Hiruko displaying an impressive feat of combat prowess. When the others ask her about it, Hiruko reveals she has been fighting these monsters in the TRC as a vigilante long before they had even arrived at the LDA and has racked up plenty of experience against them. This makes Takumi wonder how long exactly the School Invaders have been attacking the TRC before that fateful day and how long the TRC authorities have covered it up. Even without Sirei's guidance, the students obliterate a second wave sent against them. Then, a newcomer with the physique of a human approaches their position. After a short debate on whether this stranger is another School Invader or someone from the TRC that somehow got mixed up in this, Takemaru steps up and challenges the stranger. The stranger seems to respond by putting his hands up. Somewhat convinced that they can communicate with him, the students take a few tentative steps forward. But then, the stranger puts his hands together, murmurs a chant in an unintelligible language, and cuts his own throat with his right hand. In an instant, blood gushes from the wound but forms a protective vortex around him, almost identical to the students' Hemoanima transformation. Soon, the vortex bursts open and reveals the skeletal wyvern from Day 001. Before the group can react, the wyvern suddenly grasps them all, leaving them unable to move or fight back. They are about to suffer the same fate as Darumi did on Day 001. Eito joins the battle. At this crucial moment, Eito appears in his Class Armor and dismembers the wyvern with his giant scythe, freeing the other SDU members from his grasp. After a lame-ish speech about how much he values friendship, Eito officially joins the fight. With Eito’s help, the five of them defeat the commander and force him out of his combat form. This reminds the students that they, even Hiruko, have never faced a humanoid School Invader. When on the topic of what to do with the defeated commander, the commander appears to be begging for mercy, although the students still cannot understand the language he speaks in. Hiruko demands that he be killed and, when the others hesitate, steps forward and finishes him off herself with a stab from her infuser, absorbing all his power. Without it, the commander's corpse shrivels up into a black, mummified husk, and the students return to the school with a new mystery in their minds. Back inside, Eito is shocked to see Sirei's destroyed body and realizes any chance of the truth about any of this was destroyed with him. Without a spare body, Sirei is gone for good. Ironically, without Sirei, the students grow even uneasier. Without anything else to do, they all return to their rooms to rest. In reality, Eito was merely feigning his ignorance and shock about Sirei's death to throw off any possible suspicion. As he contemplates his fate for the rest of his days here, Takumi hears his doorbell ring and finds Eito at his door. Eito has come to thank him for what Takumi has done for him and offers a more hopeful look on the days ahead. He hopes they will unravel the mysteries and make it through together and extends his hand toward Takumi. After the two exchange a firm handshake, Eito returns to his room. | |||
Day 008[]
- Hiruko assumes command over the LDA in Sirei's absence.

Even with Sirei gone, his pre-recorded announcements still play every morning, as scheduled. Takumi heads down to the Cafeteria to meet with the others. The Tsukumo twins have already started their dark cuisine spree with taco rice topped with whipped cream when Hiruko demands the students' attention to discuss the plans for the days ahead. Without Sirei's directive, the students' opinion on what they should do vary wildly. Suddenly, Hiruko speaks up and announces she will be permanently taking charge of the LDA in Sirei's indefinite absence, reminding the students of the ongoing war and the high stakes it brings. However, her rather extreme stance and terms for the others gets the students quite unnerved. Eventually, Hiruko leaves the students to their business to think of some new battle strategies. Even though her plan sounds extreme, it may also be the most logical given the circumstances. Still, Takumi wonders whether it is a good idea to just completely surrender all power to her. He spends the rest of the day in free time. | |||
Day 009[]
- Hiruko starts banning the non-fighters from the Cafeteria.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Today, the only ones in the Cafeteria are the fighters of the SDU, with the rest being absent. Hiruko confesses she is banning the others from using the LDA's facilities as long as they will not join the fight. Despite objections against this measure from the others, she does not let up and leaves the rest to have their breakfast in silence and unease. They spend the rest of the day in free time. At night, Takumi worries whether Hiruko will resort to even more extreme methods to achieve her goals. | |||
Day 010[]
- The students explore the newly-unlocked Rec Room and Leisure Lounge.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
The Leisure Lounge. Today's announcement has Sirei congratulating the students for reaching the Day 010 milestone. In honor of that, he announces the students will now have access to the Rec Room and the Leisure Lounge on 3F. Takumi goes to explore the unlocked rooms and sees Hiruko in the Leisure Lounge. The lounge pleases Hiruko, who sees it as a prime location for some R&R and requests that Takumi leaves her in relaxation. The Rec Room. Next, Takumi visits the Rec Room, short for Recreation Room, and finds it quite normal in comparison to everything else in the LDA. In fact, Takumi can even imagine a fancy academy having a room like this. Darumi is more disappointed by the lack of extremely explicit content while Eito is reading the manual for the Gift-O-Matic in the middle of the room. With some required materials, the machine can make any of its extensive range of catalogued items, which the students can in turn use as gifts for each other to strengthen their esprit de corps. With that in mind, Takumi returns to his room and spends the rest of the day in free time. | |||
Day 011[]
- Hiruko announces she will evict the non-fighters in five days.
- Takumi goes to persuade Tsubasa and sees her problem.
- Takumi plans to make her a sick pouch to fix her problem.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Right after waking up, Takumi gets a visitor at his door. Opening up, he finds Darumi at the door, who looks a little off. In another one of her crazy mood swings, Darumi says she cannot take it anymore and asks Takumi to come die with her. Takumi gets creeped out by her, but Darumi instantly breaks the facade as just a prank. She is really here to ask Takumi to help her get the non-fighters to the Cafeteria per Hiruko's order. So, Takumi is left to deal with Tsubasa and Gaku while Darumi goes to the twins and Shouma. When Takumi is at Tsubasa's dorm, he learns that Hiruko has told the non-fighters not to exit their dorms in addition of banning them from the Cafeteria. Tsubasa reluctantly heads to the Cafeteria, followed by Gaku, who is overdramatic as ever. After rationing the non-fighters one slice of dry bread each, Hiruko moves on to the matter at hand: she has decided to have the non-fighters leave the LDA, forcibly kick them out if she has to. Tired of protecting the freeloaders and receiving nothing in return, Hiruko reminds everyone present that those who will not fight for the LDA have no place here and are only fit to be decoys for the School Invaders if they still want to be of any use. This sudden and rash decision upsets many. Fortunately, Takumi unexpectedly easily persuades Hiruko to extend the eviction date by five days. The non-fighters will have until Day 016 to decide whether to join the fight or leave the LDA by themselves. With her customary brusque attitude, Hiruko leaves the students to discuss among themselves. Even when faced with certain death upon leaving, Gaku is still too reluctant to fight. With a curse toward his bad luck, he stomps away. Shouma recognizes his own limits and scurries away, followed by Tsubasa. Although he pokes at Eito for betraying the non-fighters, Ima is more optimistic about the situation, for he has devised a secret plan to save him and Kako. After they have all left, the remaining students realize Hiruko gave them the extension date quite easily, unlike her usual unrelenting ways. Eito suspects Hiruko is intentionally giving them five days so the fighters have time to convince the non-fighters. It appears she also wants to give them one last chance. Since convincing them will require the fighters to know why the others will not fight, Eito proposes sneaking the starved non-fighters some food and make them open up to them, even if only a little. This task ends up falling to Takumi, who already half-expected this to happen. But truly, he is the best suited for this task among the fighters, unlike the impulsive Takemaru, unsubtle Darumi, and two-faced Eito. Of course, they still offer Takumi their help for when they can. Immediately, Takumi concludes Tsubasa should be the easiest out of the five to convince and heads to her room with some food. Seeing the sandwiches after a seeming eternity of involuntary fasting, Tsubasa welcomes the sandwiches and Takumi into her room with open arms. Once they are inside her workshop of a room, Tsubasa ravenously devours the sandwiches within a minute. Takumi offers to bring her some more or better food in exchange for her reasons for not fighting. Tsubasa reluctantly acquiesces and confesses that she will not fight because her physique will react to stress or a nervous state with extreme nausea. If it gets too much, she will quite literally vomit without regard for anything else. As no medicine helps, that condition will be impossible to fight with. Even just picturing herself fighting the invaders gets her nauseous enough to vomit all over the floor with Takumi watching. After witnessing that, Takumi gets busted out of her room quite immediately. Takumi now sees the severity of this issue but thinks Tsubasa will be willing to fight if she can somehow overcome her nausea. After discussing it with the rational Eito, who has just walked up to the rooftop, he tries looking for a sick bag to give Tsubasa if it will help with her nausea. To that end, Takumi and Eito find a fashionable sick pouch catalogued in the Gift-O-Matic and split up to look for the required materials around the LDA. Although neither Kako nor Ima have ever owned fashionable pouches, or any pouches for that matter, Kako does give Takumi a string, another required piece for the sick pouch. Darumi does not have one either but bets a dilapidated cosmetics shop she saw when they were out looking for Eito has one. Takumi gets the shop's location out of her and plans going there if there is not a single fashionable pouch in the entire school. Naturally, Takemaru does not have one but does give Takumi some handy intel on Tsubasa's personal life and interests, something Takumi can use to his advantage when trying to persuade her again. Meanwhile, Eito has gotten his hands on a plastic bag and seems quite upbeat about this treasure-hunt-like activity. When they meet each other in the Rec Room at night, the two schedule an exploration for tomorrow morning to find that fashionable pouch in the cosmetics shop Darumi mentioned. | |||
Day 012[]
- Takumi and Eito find the required materials during exploration and create a fashionable sick pouch for Tsubasa.
- After a long conversation, Takumi successfully persuades Tsubasa to join the fight.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Soon after morning arrives, Takumi and Eito head out toward the place they ventured to on Day 006 and successfully finds the fashionable pouch they are looking for in that cosmetics shop. One processing in the Gift-O-Matic later, and the machine dumps out the fashionable sick pouch it has catalogued. Eito reminds Takumi that the pouch alone will likely not be enough to fully convince Tsubasa, and Takumi will also have to give her a new reason to fight for - to protect her grandfather and the workshop she left behind. Takumi acknowledges that and heads up to Tsubasa's dorm. After giving her the fashionable pouch, the two continue their conversation from yesterday. When Takumi persuades Tsubasa to use the sick pouch whenever she has to vomit again, it quickly becomes clear that vomiting is not even her biggest issue. It is more the shame she will feel when everyone catches her in the act. Tsubasa has had several traumatic cases of getting bullied or losing friends because of her vomiting in the past. Now that she is here, she is afraid the SDU members will be just like that and ostracize her. To reassure her that it will not happen, Takumi makes a gamble and promises to also vomit whenever Tsubasa does it to share the shame. In the wake of that empty-ish promise, the two awkwardly stare at each other for minutes before Tsubasa cracks up in laughter, admitting she has not had a heart-to-heart with someone for quite some time. Usually, she can only be herself when she was tinkering in her grandfather's workshop. Her kind grandfather and his workshop mean the world to her, and she dreams of inheriting the place one day. Using this brief opening, Takumi reminds Tsubasa that both of them may very well be destroyed if this war is lost, just like Sirei has told them before. That possibility terrifies Tsubasa, and Takumi utterly shatters the last of her reluctance with a final, powerful phrase. Persuaded, Tsubasa promises to thoroughly think about joining the fight and asks Takumi to give her some time. Takumi agrees and leaves after Tsubasa thanks him for the conversation. | |||
Day 013[]
- Takumi tries persuading Gaku next.
- He decides to give him a gift too.
| Full Summary | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
Out of the four people Takumi has yet to persuade, he feels the most confident with Gaku and goes to his dorm for a chat while bringing some food. Compared to Tsubasa's room, which has tools and machinery on the floor but still maintains a sense of order, Gaku's room is a complete dumping ground for waste of any type. His reason for not fighting is also quite simple: he is simply too afraid of those monsters. When Takumi retries the "protect your loved ones" strategy, it does not work on Gaku, for he does not have a family or anyone dear to him. Growing up in a poor group home, he only worked and survived for himself, caring little for anyone else or the entire TRC. He tells Takumi to bring him a large sum of money if he wants him to consider fighting. After that, Takumi gets busted out of his room. He realizes none of the students have any money on them when they were brought here and thinks of making Gaku a gift with monetary value from the Gift-O-Matic instead. Thus, Takumi heads off to the others for some advice. Darumi has no advice to offer on that but does show Takumi a surgical scalpel from a surgical kit she got from an abandoned hospital during an exploration. Eito recommends Takumi give Gaku some new clothes, since his are always ragged and of poor quality. It cannot be any clothing, though, and will have to match his tastes. However, Takemaru bets on some sewing equipment instead, since Gaku is quite the adept at sewing clothing back when he used to patch the clothings his younger siblings ripped up. Takumi realizes Gaku was partially lying about him lacking a family and has, in fact, over twenty foster siblings. Next, Takumi catches Hiruko doing administrative work for the past battles to record everyone's contributions. She mentions that it is important to keep these records to avoid getting short-changed on the School Invader bounty rewards by the top brass. Takumi instantly recognizes the significance this can mean for persuading Gaku. At night, Takumi browses the catalogue in the Gift-O-Matic and finds the template for a sewing kit, which he imagines is the best gift to give Gaku. On the topic of the required materials, he remembers the abandoned hospital Darumi mentioned and decides to go explore it tomorrow to search it through. | ||||
Day 014[]
- Takumi gives Gaku a brand new sewing kit.
- After a long conversation, Takumi successfully persuades Gaku to join the fight.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Takumi has Darumi guide him and starts traveling toward the abandoned hospital. This time, the expedition heads southeast, and they find all required materials for Gaku's gift. After returning at night, Takumi inserts the materials into the Gift-O-Matic and receives a brand-new sewing kit, with which he heads to Gaku's room immediately. Although he said only money can convince him, Gaku is nonetheless quite appreciative of the sewing kit but still refuses to join the fight. However, his fear is swiftly replaced with interest when Takumi tells him about the bounty reward every School Invader has on its head. This is the chance for him to, not only get out of poverty, but also make a literal fortune. But Gaku is still taken aback by the fact that the unsympathetic people in the TRC will be saved as well. His hatred against the society that has abandoned him is his true reason for not fighting. Desperately seeking an opening, Takumi keeps the conversation going. He learns that Gaku has worked a grand total of seventeen jobs and gave all of his energy, time, and wages to the group home that raised him. The politicians and companies he asked for financial help all refused him, so he is now refusing to save them. Even his family is just a huge burden to him. Sustaining his siblings took all he had and could give, and they still never thanked him once. Gaku's anger rises over this lack of reciprocity and wishes death upon them. Ironically, Gaku starts crying at that imagination, and Takumi dispels his self-illusion. Like Karua is to him, Takumi asks Gaku to fight for just what matters to him the most, his family. Just like Tsubasa, Gaku's reluctance shatters, and he asks Takumi to give him some time to think it all over. | |||
Day 015[]
- Takumi tries persuading the remaining three students, but to no results.
- Eito suspects Hiruko is withholding information and asks Takumi to accompany him.
- Hiruko confesses she indeed has the information on the harrowing truth.
- They decide to tell the students tomorrow.
Day 016[]
- Hiruko goes missing as well.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
When the students get to the Cafeteria this morning to hear the information Hiruko has been withholding from them, she is not there. In the subsequent search for her, the students cannot find even a trace of Hiruko anywhere within the firewall. A theory that she might have gone outside the firewall is quickly debunked by the presence of both fire extinguishers. Then, Gaku remembers that Hiruko and Sirei both went missing right before they were going to reveal the truth to the students. With her disappearance, her planned test for the non-fighters is canceled, as is Ima's plan of seducing her into allowing him and Kako to stay. The students are already directionless without Sirei and are now even more desperate without Hiruko's firm hand. They decide to search the school again but make no progress whatsoever. At night, Eito decides to call it a day and convinces Takumi to go sleep to conserve his stamina. In his mind, Takumi still hopes Hiruko will be back tomorrow like nothing happened. | |||
Day 017[]
- Hiruko is still missing without a trace.
- Kako hypothesizes the culprit is among the students.
- The second School Invader Commander attacks the LDA.
- Tsubasa and Gaku join the battle.
- The SDU defeats the second commander.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
After an entire day of searching, the students still come up empty-handed at night. During their confusion, Kako spots an inconsistency in their logic and theorizes the fire extinguishers are not the only ways to break through the firewall. After all, Hiruko knows a lot more than they do about the entire situation, and it might have included a backdoor or shortcut past the Undying Flames that no one else knows about. Moreover, unlike Sirei, Hiruko cannot detonate the bombs within them, so there is a significant possibility the culprit is among them. If one of the students killed her, disposed of her body beyond the firewall and then returned, it would explain how both fire extinguishers are still present. The Corpse Recovery Drones also would not have detected the corpse outside the firewall, making Hiruko's case appear like a disappearance into thin air. Even though this is only a theory, Darumi immediately starts doubting the others. Then, the nighttime announcement sounds, and the students decide to leave the search beyond the firewall for tomorrow and retreat to their dorms. After thinking about the case for a while, Takumi drifts off to sleep. Several hours later, however, he suddenly wakes up to a weird, hot feeling and sees something in the corner of his eyes that has him springing to his feet. The ghostly apparition wreathed in Undying Flames from Day 002 has appeared before him again. Despite his fear, Takumi asks the apparition who he is, his reasons for being here, and whether he is an invader as well. The apparition appears to speak with him, but, just like before, Takumi cannot hear or understand any of it. Assuming he is an invader, Takumi temporarily suspects him as the culprit behind Hiruko's and Sirei's disappearances. Suddenly, the alarm klaxons wail to life and warn of another attack on the LDA. The school's defense mode activates, and the generators raise the barriers. In response, Takumi rushes to the War Room and realizes the situation is looking bad - they are already down one powerful fighter, and the two non-fighters that he had persuaded do not appear to be coming, after all. Nonetheless, the four students present transform and head down to the battlefield. Gaku joins the battle. Tsubasa joins the battle. This time, the leading commanders are two identical serpentine monsters wielding lightning-tipped spears. The SDU defeats one after a struggle, but the other revives it immediately. Eito concludes they are to defeat the two simultaneously to win the battle, but the PA system warns of another of the same monster incoming. With three duplicates of the commander attacking simultaneously, the SDU starts getting overwhelmed. Fortunately, Tsubasa and Gaku, having made up their minds, timely join them on the battlefield and take on the commander as well, much to the rest of the fighters' relief. Tsubasa arrives in her reinforced military jeep and Gaku brings a large gatling gun, greatly balancing the odds. This emboldens (████[2]) the queasy Eito, who delivers another brief speech about the value of friendship. Another battle later, and the students defeat all three duplicates. The second commander lays defeated. However, the three duplicates crawl toward each other with their last breaths and fused into one, massive serpentine monster wielding a lightning-tipped trident. Even so, the SDU forces the commander out of its true form after an intense battle. Now left in her humanoid form, the commander lays sprawled on the ground. This one has displayed the same features and abilities like the first commander, and the students can still not find out why they can use Hemoanima like that. They have been denied the truth once again, this time by Hiruko's disappearance. Nevertheless, one of the students still finishes the downed commander off with a stab from the infuser and absorbs her power, like Hiruko had done on Day 007. After that, they return to the War Room. Greatly appreciating the help of their two newest fighters, Takemaru calls for a celebration in the Cafeteria but pushes it off to tomorrow when he learns how late it already is. Thus, the students return to their dorms for a well-deserved rest, feeling triumphant yet utterly exhausted. | |||
Day 018[]
- The students all suffer from intense muscle pain and discuss their future plans.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
The exhausted students in the Cafeteria. When Takumi wakes up all the way in the afternoon, his entire body has become one big mass of muscle pain from the intense combat yesterday. Still, he forces himself to head to the Cafeteria. There, Takumi sees he has company to enjoy in his misery - all who battled yesterday are still suffering from intense exhaustion and muscle pain. In their near-disability, the Tsukumo twins are going back and forth to bring the students their meals. Tsubasa gets her avocado cheeseburger with an unwanted layer of peanut butter, and Gaku receives a bowl of gyudon. Ima encourages the group to recover quickly and prepare for new attacks, which sours the mood. Then, Eito speaks up and starts discussing their future plans, now without Hiruko as well. It is already sure that they cannot leave until the 100 days are up, and now they realize they may never find out the truth as well. Without Sirei, they do not even have a way to contact the higher-ups who sent them here. But Takumi does believe the existence of the mysterious object within the school, as well as the 100-day time limit. As for whether they can go home after that, they can only have faith in that it will happen. After the students finish their breakfast-lunch-dinner combination, they return to their rooms. Takumi's body still hurts in the wake of last night's battle, and he spends the rest of the day not doing anything noteworthy. | |||
Day 019[]
- The students explore the newly-unlocked Garage and Library.
Day 020[]
- With many of the students undisciplined, Eito proposes for Takumi to become their new leader.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Finally healed from his muscle pains, Takumi heads to the Cafeteria but finds himself as the first one there, a rare case. Eito walks in a few minutes later and discusses some new strategies with Takumi. The fact that most of the students are now overly enjoying themselves without any authority figures around proves they need a new leader. After analyzing Takumi's qualities, Eito proposes he becomes the new leader, though Takumi refuses out of a fear of responsibility. After their conversation, Takumi returns to his room and spends the rest of the day in free time. The others may stay up late, but Takumi will never relinquish the chance to sleep on time. | |||
Day 021[]
- Free time all-day-long.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
One-fifth of their time here is over, and Takumi feels himself getting closer to returning to the TRC. While he spends the entire day in free time, Eito and Gaku are preparing something for tomorrow. Eito secretly sneaks sleeping pills into the food that is supposed to be grilled tomorrow to put the entire SDU out of commission for a day. | |||
Day 022[]
- The SDU holds a BBQ party to celebrate their recent victory.
- Shouma remembers a key memory.
- Takumi feels unnaturally sleepy after the party and has another memory dream of Karua.
Day 023[]
- Most of the SDU sleeps through the entire day without ever waking up.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Despite the daily morning announcements, today, most of the SDU sleeps through this entire day without ever waking up. Unaffected by any sleeping pills, Eito uses this interval and burns all the SDU's food stockpiles in the Cafeteria's giant refrigerator. | |||
Day 024[]
- Having lost all their food stockpiles to an unprecedented fire yesterday, the SDU mobilizes to search for food outside the school.
- During a sudden storm, Takumi gets knocked out by someone and left for dead.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Only when Takumi wakes up to the morning announcement again does he realize he has slept through all of yesterday without ever waking up. Outside, Takumi sees for the first time the almost-alien phenomenon called "rain" and spots Shouma standing in the rain at the rooftop entrance. Apparently, only Shouma woke up yesterday while the rest snoozed away. He did not see anyone exit their rooms for the entire day and stayed in his room as well. Suddenly, Takemaru calls them down to the Cafeteria since a disaster has occurred. While Takumi and Shouma head down, Takemaru rushes to the other dorms to wake the others up. In the Cafeteria, the students see the opened vault door to the Giant Refrigerator covered in ash while smoke pours out from within. Eito reports that a fire has burned every last bit of food they had stored within. Had the sprinklers not activated, the fire would likely have spread to the entire school while the students slept. With still 76 days remaining, the students do not even have enough food for a day. Remembering Shouma was the only one awake yesterday, Gaku starts suspecting him as the arsonist. However, the Tsukumo twins focus on why only Shouma was awake and hypothesize that it was because he was the only one who did not eat anything at the barbecue party on Day 022. Suppose someone intentionally spiked the food and/or drinks with sedatives, that can perfectly explain how the rest slept through an entire day after getting stuffed. Sirei might have been responsible for spiking the food, but likely out of enforcing compliance rather than sabotage. Compared to that, the sudden fire in the refrigerator is a much larger mystery. Again, Takumi's mind goes to the ghost boy he saw in the night of Day 017, but Eito recommends they shelve this conversation. Right now, they need to look for more food to stay alive if they ever want to solve this mystery. Taking decisive action, Eito makes the three non-fighters search the school grounds for food and splits the six fighters in two trios to venture beyond the firewall. Right before the SDU head out, Takumi decides to share his story about his encounters with this apparition, who might be the one behind this series of sabotage. Eito looks a little troubled (████[3]) at hearing that but quickly composes himself again. But, like the mysterious fire, this case will also have to wait until they return with more food. With that, the SDU members venture outside the school in search of food. During their scavenge, a sudden storm hits and everyone splits up to take shelter. When Takumi takes shelter in an abandoned building, someone whacks him on the head with a metal pipe from behind, knocking him out. The one who attacked him from behind was Eito. After knocking Takumi unconscious, he drags his body to the desert, leaving him to die there. Takumi apologized to Karua for forgetting about their plans. During his unconsciousness, Takumi dreams of yet another fragment of his past with Karua, this time a more recent one. Once, he misremembered the date for a planned movie with Karua by one day. As a result, Karua waited on nothing for quite some time outside the station. Realizing his mistake and Karua's frustration, Takumi treated her to lunch and bore her angry complaints. Although Karua was quite upset about Takumi not showing up for this significant event, she was not beyond reason and was willing to forgive Takumi if he said his signature quote again. Takumi acquiesced and Karua forgave him just like that. However, she still reminded him to put more focus on remembering their plans and pictures a scenario where she did not remember Takumi at all anymore. When this got Takumi feeling a little odd, Karua quickly wrote it off as a mere joke. | |||
Day 025[]
- A robot similar to Sirei discovers a barely conscious Takumi in the desert and brings him to Second-to-Last Defense Academy (SLDA).
Day 026[]
- Takumi is incapacitated at the Second-to-Last Defense Academy and declared missing by his SDU comrades.
Day 027[]
- Takumi is still incapacitated at the Second-to-Last Defense Academy and declared missing by his SDU comrades.
Day 028[]
- Takumi regains consciousness at the Second-to-Last Defense Academy and meets its SDU members.
- He also meets an exact lookalike of Karua but finds out she is an entirely different person.
- The third School Invader Commander attacks the SLDA, followed by a surprise attack from the Supreme Commander.
- Nigou self-destructs the SLDA, and the remaining SDU members rush back to the LDA to rendezvous with the SDU there.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
When Takumi finally regains consciousness, he finds himself in a room that looks almost like his room in LDA. Only, the furniture's color are of a darker shade. Then, the door opens, and Takumi is greeted by Nigou, the robot that saved him from the desert. He is Sirei's subordinate and fulfils a similar role in this Second-to-Last Defense Academy. When the SLDA's defense system picked up an unidentified reading several days ago, Nigou went to investigate and ended up finding Takumi in the desert. Although he mistakes Takumi for a visitor, not knowing Takumi was there by accident, Nigou offers him several onigiri, which Takumi ravenously devours after several days of involuntary fasting. After the quick meal, Nigou offers Takumi to come meet the students of this academy, the additional students of the SDU he has yet to meet. They are currently in a practice session in the school's gymnasium. Thus, Takumi heads off to find the Gym of this academy, structured identically to the LDA. Takumi meets the students at the Second-to-Last Defense Academy. As he walks through the school's hallways, Takumi finds the layout just the same as the LDA, but just different enough to be recognizable. The disconnect between familiar and unfamiliar is actually a little unsettling for him. Once he walks into the Gym, the practicing noises inside fall silent, and Takumi sees three students inside with Nigou. The only boy there jokes to have almost cut off one of Takumi's finger to get him to wake up. A girl adds in an old-fashioned tone that he has been asleep for a full two days and reminds him to thank Nigou for his rescue. Then, the last girl haughtily demands Takumi thank her instead by committing ritual suicide. Nigou gets them to stop teasing and reintroduces himself as Sirei's subordinate who fulfils a role similar to him in this Second-to-Last Defense Academy. He then turns to the students and introduces:
Takumi mistakes Nozomi for Karua. After the brief introductions, Nigou moves onto more serious business. He has noticed Sirei has stopped contacting him for some time now and asks Takumi whether the LDA's communication equipment got damaged in the most recent battle. Takumi is just about to explain when the door to the Gym suddenly swings open. Standing there is a girl whose voice makes Takumi's entire body tense up - he knows that voice all too well, since he has basically heard it for his entire life. It sounds just like Karua, and it comes from a student who also looks identical to Karua. The girl was outside to search for a certain "Moko" and then sees Takumi. His heart nearly pounding out of his chest, Takumi runs up to greet who he believes is his childhood friend, whom he has not seen for nearly an entire month. But his relief instantly turns into shock when the girl explains she is not Karua, but Nozomi Kirifuji, and she does not recognize Takumi either. Initially, Takumi does not believe it, as no two unrelated people can appear so utterly identical, apart from the hair style. But before he can press on, Kyoshika already has her Holy Jumonji Sword pressed to his throat to make him stand down. The other students also join in and point out she is called Nozomi and not this "Karua" who they have never heard of. Extremely confused, Takumi nonetheless decides to be smart about it and admits his mistake for now, writing it off as a misunderstanding. With that out of the way, Takumi reports on everything that has happened at LDA over the last few weeks, including Sirei's death, Hiruko's takeover as leader and subsequent disappearance, and the most recent drugging incident and fire disaster that burned all their food. Of course, Kurara only mocks him for the SDU's incompetence and whacks Nigou over the head to get him out of a processor-freeze. Nigou is devastated to hear of Sirei's death and gets berated by Kurara for it. When Takumi then inquires about the objective of this school, Nigou answers that it serves the same purpose as the LDA. Aside from the basic facilities, it also houses its own Defense Room with another mysterious object inside. Unlike Sirei, Nigou even tells him that said object is the key to overcoming something called World Death and ensuring the survival of humanity's future generations. However, he nearly freaks out when he learns that Takumi has never heard of this information from Sirei and abruptly shuts up about it. Nevertheless, the damage has been done, and Takumi has remembered the information. This academy's SDU is currently down one student, Moko Mojiro. She allowed herself to be taken prisoner by the enemy during their last battle. Although everyone speaks highly of her sacrifice, Nozomi insists Moko is still alive and out there, somewhere. Although smaller in size, this SDU makes up for it with skill, especially necessary since this school does not have the protection of the Undying Firewall and the enemy attacks are much fiercer. But unlike Takumi's SDU, the SDU here does not have any morale issues, as its members are perfectly clear and fine with carrying out their mission of utmost importance, thanks to Nozomi's expert framing. That is where Takumi begins to see a divergence between her and Karua, as his childhood friend is much more different personality-wise. Despite how good it sounds to have another fighter on their team, Nigou insists on following the plan and plans to have Takumi returned to the LDA. Using their special model School Bus, Takumi can get back in just under a day along with the food supplies they need. As they plan on leaving tomorrow morning, Takumi hopes he can get the opportunity to converse with Nozomi to have his suspicions confirmed or cleared. But just looking at her for a little gets Kurara and Kyoshika aggressively defensive. In his room, Takumi thinks of several possible ways of how Nozomi and Karua may be the same or, at least, somehow connected. Just as he decides to go talk to Nozomi despite the threats against him, this school's alarms suddenly start blaring. The School Invaders are here, and Takumi instinctively rushes out the room. On his way to the War Room, Takumi sees Nozomi, who is also going. From their brief conversation, Takumi sees she is ready to fight despite her nerves, something the timid Karua would never do in any situation. However, they do share their mutual dislike for sirens, which ties the two together again in Takumi's mind. After she slaps her own cheeks to focus, Nozomi and Takumi head toward the War Room, where the others are already waiting. Inside, Nigou is freaking out at the frequency of recent attacks but nonetheless encourages the students to fight hard, including Takumi. He also reassures him that this school's Revive-O-Matic can bring him and anyone from the LDA's SDU back from the dead if necessary, as the databases are shared between the two schools. After some encouraging words from Nozomi, which reminds Takumi of Karua's speech tendencies, the students transform and head down to the battlefield. On the battlefield, Takumi quickly sees Nozomi is wearing an artificial version of the regular Class Armor. Nigou explains that Nozomi can only fight with the artificial substitutes created by him since her underdeveloped Hemoanima abilities do not allow her to use a regular infuser or manifest battle gear. Similarly, the Revive-O-Matic will not work on her, either. She is a rare oddity among those who can all use Hemoanima. Despite those flaws, Nozomi still fights on par with the others, and they best the first wave. Soon after, the readings spike, and the third School Invader Commander, resembling a giant Wanyūdō with four huge sickles for limbs, cartwheels past the charging monsters onto school grounds. Nozomi notifies the group that this one is not the commander that took Moko away. Due to his high speeds and agility, the students have a hard time damaging him but eventually defeat him and absorb his power. Just as they are ready to retreat back into the school, another commander appears without them noticing. This one transforms into a colossal, winged knight, but its power readings are far beyond any School Invader or Commander ever recorded. Even though the students throw everything they have at this commander, they cannot even break through her shielding. After charging up her attack, the commander unleashes a flurry of sword slashes and instantly incapacitates the entire SDU. Although none of them are dead outright, this gives the commander an opening to destroy the barrier generator and enter the school. The students never stood a chance against her. Then, Nigou tells them to flee over the comms. She reveals that the Defense Room in this school is, in fact, empty. It was necessary to deceive the SLDA students into thinking they are also defending a mysterious object to allow the plan to succeed to the greatest degree possible. The SLDA was always meant only as a decoy to divert the enemy's attention and waste their resources to alleviate some of the pressure put on the LDA. The students of the two schools were always meant to merge, though Nigou did not think the occasion would come this early. Reminding the students that their true duty is at the LDA, Nigou orders them to drive there in their School Bus and gives them his final blessings. As the commander strides toward the unguarded Defense Room gates, Nigou watches her on the War Room cameras and brings out a remote. After hesitating a little, he still presses the big, red button on it. A split second later, the school violently self-destructs in a huge explosion, engulfing the distracted commander. In the midst of the conflagration, the five students roll out in the school bus and race toward the LDA at full speed. | |||
Day 029[]
- The SDU is on the verge of starvation.
| Full Summary | |||
|---|---|---|---|
The famished students after Takumi has been missing for five days. Although the SDU have found some canned food during their expedition, it was only barely enough to keep them going at one can per day. As such, the students are involuntarily fasting until they can have their one daily can of food again, which includes dry bread. Any other time of the day, the students are on the verge of starvation, and Shouma is already starting to hallucinate. Eito remembers the missing Takumi and wonders if he is faring better than them, even though none present know whether he is even alive. He, for one, still clings on hope (██ ███ █ ██[4]) and decides to go look outside for a little. Takumi has saved his life in more ways than one before, so Eito wants to return the favor. Despite his wishes, he is in no better state than the other students. Then, Ima requests the students' attention and claims Kako has just received a vision. In that vision, Kako sees Takumi is alive and will return to them soon, much to Eito's surprise and relief (█████[5]). Unfortunately, prophetic visions like these occur quite randomly and have a decent chance of being off. Like the final nail in the coffin, the alarms go off and warn of yet another imminent school invasion. Starved, undermanned, and leaderless, the SDU is in no state to fight. That does not stop them from rushing to the War Room anyway. As always, Shouma's self-deprecation prevent him from changing his mind, and Ima uses Kako's prophecy as an excuse not to fight. He reminds everyone that his aims, since coming to this academy, have never changed - that is, he will not suffer any threats to Kako nor himself. Kako begins thinking that their idleness is awfully unfair for the others, but Ima coerces her back into her usual unconditional submissiveness. With no other choice, the rest of the students rush to the War Room, transform, and head down to the battlefield. The ground is teeming with the usual invaders, but there is something else prowling the skies above. A bulbous whale, slowly flying with its wings, circles the battlefield. It is another commander, the third one the LDA has to face. Not even Gaku's gatling gun has enough range on the commander, who keeps dropping eggs that hatches into new invaders. In this predicament, Kako updates her prophecy: not only is Takumi returning soon, he is also bringing help. As if to prove her words right, soon, the SLDA's school bus dashes through the Undying Firewall and stops near the battlefield, offloading its passengers. Takumi has finally returned and brought the additional SDU members, just like Kako has predicted. | |||
