Who are you gonna target? You'll never win the killing game if you don't know who you're gonna kill ahead of time. Unless...is it me?!
-- Official Website [1]
Darumi Amemiya[3] (Amemiya Darumi 飴宮 怠美) is a student in the 2025 JRPG The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-.
Appearance[]
Darumi is a pale-skinned teenage girl with hot pink eyes and tri-color hair that has black roots and fades from light blue to dark blue. It's pulled up into two pigtails and fastened by two black bows.
One of Darumi's notable features is her gothic makeup. On the left side of her face, she has dripping mascara and with teeth mimicking a larger smile while on the right side of her face, she has a small heart symbol beneath her eye. She also has a long, dark tongue. Her notable clothes consist of a white and blue striped sweater with a sailor collar. There's a giant safety pin attached to the collar with a small, red bow on the upper chest, long purple thigh highs and large black boots. In addition, she wears another large safety pin on a red choker with multiple symbols on her arm, chest and hip.
After transforming into her Class Armor, Darumi loses all of her makeup except for the mascara, which turns blood red. She wears a standard version of the girl's version of the uniform. She also gains seven different knives: one that she holds, and three that float behind either side of her.[4] Her armband, as well as the knife she holds, has the numeral 參 (3) on it.
Personality[]
"A young woman known for her mood swings and obsession with all things dark and depressing. She's a big fan of killing game stories and has no fear of death. If she has to die, all she wants is a death that's as dramatic and flamboyant as humanly possible." - Official Website Description[5]
Darumi is the "manic emo dream girl." She is known for her quick, extreme mood swings, rapidly going from depressed and lethargic to highly excitable, even hysteric.[6]
She is obsessed with anything dark and depressing, especially killing games.[7] Because she felt trapped in her difficult life, Darumi gets excited at the idea of putting a halt to it by being in a killing game herself.[8] She sees herself as an easy target[9] who will likely be killed first[10] and is unafraid of death[11], likely because of her depression as well[12]. If she were to die, she would want as dramatic and flamboyant a death as possible.[13][14]
Despite her chaotic nature, Darumi possesses exceptionally sharp vision, boasting 20/20 eyesight that allows her to see details from remarkable distances. It's one of the few traits that is remarkable about her. In contrast, she often jokes that she is "always 20"—a reference not only to her perfect vision but also to her tendency to score a measly 20% on exams.
During the Restnom Route, Darumi displays a softer and seemingly more sincere side to her personality. After Takumi decided to return to the Last Defense Academy, resulting the Second-to-Last Defense Academy students, minus Nozomi, to be absorbed by V'ehxness and losing the trust of the Special Defense Unit, Darumi confronts Takumi and expresses her gratitude towards him, stating that she would've likely died if he had returned any later. She was also determined to figure out ways to bring back the deceased student which is what lead to her and Takumi finding out about Retsnom and the Ruby Tear.
When confronted with V'ehxness again later on, Darumi displays a deep loathing and rage towards the Supreme Commander, likely for attempting to kill her and for killing the Second-to-Last Defense Academy students. This hatred stays with her for the rest of route, going so far as to pretend that she was defecting from the Last Defense Academy in order to get close enough to poison V'ehxness.
Given all of this information, it is likely that Darumi's "crazy girl" personality is likely a front to discourage people from getting close and attached to her. Darumi genuinely believes that her own life is worthless and that no one will miss her when she's gone, so she uses this front to keep it that way.
Name Etymology[]
Darumi's given name means "neglect or lazy" (怠美, daru) and "beauty" 美 (mi) while her surname, Amemiya, (飴宮) contains kanji for "candy" 飴 (ame) and "palace" 宮 (miya).
History[]
Early Life[]
Darumi's family environment has been described as poor, and as one of the key reasons why she's so obsessed with death games.[15] She performs very badly in school, being a straight-F student.
Enrollment in the Last Defense Academy[]
Relationships[]
Takumi Sumino[]
When first meeting, Takumi is a bit taken back by Darumi's extreme viewpoints of life. Despite this, Takumi doesn't seem to think less of her and thinks of her as a friend within the first few hours of meeting one another.
As shown in Freetime Events, Takumi seems open to hang out with Darumi such as watching movies and eating snacks together, though as shown in the event where the pair play videogames, even Takumi still be taken back by her when Darumi "captures" Takumi and makes him play suggestive videogames despite his hesitance.
In the Retsnom Route, Darumi was one of Takumi's few friends and allies after his decision lead to the deaths of the Second-to-Last Defense Academy students at the hands of V'ehxness. When Takumi attempted to use himself as a vessel for Retsnom, Darumi karate chopped him and took his place, essentially sacrificing herself for him. When the two were discussing an upcoming raid on an enemy base, Darumi encouraged Takumi to go talk things out with Nozomi and mend their connection.
